Year 5 News of the Week

The Tudors

This week, Year 5 concluded their study of the lives of the rich during the reign of Henry VIII by publishing a news article on the execution of Catherine Howard and then spending a day dressed as Tudors at the Royal Court. We went back in time to May 1540, just as King Henry prepared for his marriage to Catherine Howard, his 5th wife.

During the day, the children learnt about the German artist, Hans Holbein, and created a portrait of Catherine Howard in his style -this was a wedding gift for King Henry. The children also prepared food for the wedding banquet which included meat pies, pasties and excellent small cake.

In the afternoon the children rehearsed and performed a Tudor dance to open the wedding celebrations.

They have had a fantastic week and took up all the opportunities offered to them.
