Special Educational Needs

Children with special needs (SEN) are welcomed into Crawley Ridge Junior School. The school makes provision for children with learning difficulties, communication problems, emotional and behavioural difficulties and sensory impairment. Successful inclusion is ensured by close liaison with parents and professionals in order to ascertain and meet individual need. The SEN team, which includes teachers and teaching assistants who work solely with the children who have special educational needs, is led by Mrs Culligan, our Inclusions Manager.

At Crawley Ridge Junior School we are committed to the early identification of children with special educational needs and effective targeted intervention to support them. The School maintains a list of children with SEN which is regularly reviewed throughout the academic year.

Class teachers are given information about SEN children in their class at the beginning of the academic year and liaise with the Inclusions Manager to ensure that appropriate provision is made within classroom activities for each child. Access to the whole curriculum for SEN pupils is ensured through specific differentiation, support groups and additional adult support.

The school, in line with Special Educational Needs Code of Practice 2002, adopts a graduated response in order to help children with SEN access a balanced and broadly based curriculum, including the National Curriculum. Parents knowledge, views and experiences are highly valued and parents are involved in all stages. For children who need specific help an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is drawn up with the child, teacher and parent. If the School feels it is necessary to consult with other agencies or professionals, parents are consulted and consent requested before any action is taken.

We have staff who solely help children with SEN and these are allocated to year groups depending on the needs.

For children who need specific help, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is drawn up with the child, teacher and parent.

Copies of the SEN Policy can be inspected at the school on request.
